Why So Serious…About Feeding America?

Why So Serious…About Feeding America?

Spend even just a few minutes perusing our site and it pretty quickly becomes clear (we hope!) that we want to have fun and we can be a bit silly. For instance, just look at the “Best for” descriptions on any of our coffees! Here at Coffee 'n' Capes we contend that geek culture is supposed to be fun and enjoyable.

Given that, it is certainly reasonable to wonder (in your best Heath Ledger voice), “Why so serious…about Feeding America?”

Well, we also contend that geek culture at its best also reminds us we have a responsibility to care about each other — and to care for each other.

We are serious about partnering with Feeding America because, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 38 million people in the United States experience food insecurity. We think (as any reasonable person would) that is 38 million people too many. And Feeding America is our nation’s largest hunger-relief organization.

Ok, then what is Feeding America doing to actually, you know, feed America?

They get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers – to people in need through 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs across the country. Because Americans experiencing food insecurity live all over: in urban, rural, and suburban areas.

Want to know what food insecurity looks like near you (assuming you live in the United States)? Feeding America has a tool for that

One method Feeding America uses is to partner with manufacturers, distributors, retailers, foodservice companies, and farmers to gather food before it goes to waste. (108 billion pounds of safe food go to waste each year in America.)

We’re so serious about Feeding America that a portion of every bag of Coffee ’n’ Capes coffee we sell goes to them. Right now, that portion is $0.25. We hope to increase that as our company grows.

This way with every bag of coffee you buy from us makes you a hero to a neighbor experiencing hunger insecurity!
